Inspiration

(Late) Vijay Shankar Lal and (late) Prabha Lal lived the simple, middle class life, full of old-world charm, completely shorn of modern-day vanities. Mr. Lal came up through the ranks and worked his way up to retire as a Director of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). In a world full of temptations and deceit, Mr. Lal remained steadfast on his values until his last breath. He would rather die middle-class than acquire ill-gotten wealth. Mrs. Lal accompanied him step-by-step in this arduous journey, by taking care of the home front with great efficiency, and supporting her husband’s ascetic lifestyle with due pride, and resolve.

They don’t make too many of them these days.

They believed that the right education could change anyone’s life, and help develop social values at large. And we believe in their faith. The Vijay Prabha Educational Trust is a tribute to their memories.

Who are we?

We are a group of educators who believe in getting the workforce industry-ready. With the right set of work skills, language skills and general awareness, the youth can always carve a future for themselves. So we are here with our small initiative to empower the youth for a brighter tomorrow.

What do we do?

We realize that English Communication skills can help a large number of young girls bridge the gap between talent and employability. This is why we are focused on enhancing the ability of young girls of Class X through XII to communicate in English. Besides opening up a plethora of work opportunities, we believe that this will give them the confidence and the will power to move forward and seek deserving opportunities in the work sphere. Our training programs are designed to help participants be job and industry ready.

The Wheebox India Skills Report 2023 has reported that, other things being equal, the percentage of women who are employable is 52.8 per cent, compared to 47.2 per cent for men. The consistent rise in women’s employability over the past ten years is a positive sign of radical changes in India’s developing labour market. And we want to contribute to that trend. Increased participation of women at work will give industries an edge, with many key roles already being occupied by women. Our objective is to help young girls from rural India take advantage of these upcoming opportunities.

Our focus is currently limited to enhancing the English language and speaking skills of girls of Class X through XII, besides familiarizing them with organized retail management. The deliberate approach helps us focus on women’s empowerment as well, as women represent the most vulnerable groups in the lower social strata.

Our teachers and teaching volunteers will impart such training at the schools of children enrolling in our free courses. That is also their safe place. We will also be holding online classes for girls who cannot participate in our in-person classes for various reasons. We will be working with schools that believe in empowering their children to be job and industry-ready.
